Network ROM Flashing ==================== To assist the system administrator with flashing the system ROM multiple methods have been put in place to accomplish this task. This document describes two methods that can be applied to restore and/or update the system ROM via network on a ProLiant server. The first method is done on systems that have the Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) feature. From the main menu of iLO click on the Virtual Devices tab then click on Virtual Media in the left hand panel. Click on Virtual Media Applet and select the Local Image File under the Virtual Floppy/USB Key title. Browse to the location of the ROMPaq.iso file and select it. Reboot the system to boot to the virtual floppy media and follow the prompt to restore or upgrade you system ROM. Note: Systems equipped with iLO-2 feature can accomplish this task by following the above steps or simply by mounting the virtual floppy media via the Integrated Remote Console. From the main menu of iLO-2 click on the Remote Console tab then click on the Integrated Remote Console menu item. In the docking menu click on DRIVERS and then click on Mount Image. Thereafter, type in the path for the ROMPaq.iso file. Reboot the system and follow the prompt to restore or upgrade the system ROM. The second method is done via a Pre-Boot eXecution Environment (PXE) system. A PXE enabled system is a prerequisite to applying this method. The user is required to punch-out a diskette using the diskette.exe file located in the ROMPAQ Diskette folder of the SoftPaq. A single file can be created using a third party application such as WinImage to generate a virtual floppy file (ProLiant.vfd) that can be placed in the appropriate directory on the PXE system. The virtual floppy file can then be accessed via the F-12 button on the client server and used to restore or upgrade its system ROM.
